The topical comedy panel show What Just Happened? makes its way back onto BBC Radio Wales for a second season, welcoming the return of host Robin Morgan (Mock the Week) and resident panelist Kiri Pritchard-McLean (Live at the Apollo).
Following a triumphant debut series in Cardiff last summer, the show will be embarking on a tour across the nation, with recordings in front of live audiences in Bangor, Monmouth and Aberystwyth this May and June. Free tickets to these shows are available now.
What Just Happened? provides a unique Welsh perspective on the week’s news. Robin and Kiri lead a witty panel comprising both established and up-and-coming comedians, all primed to skewer and satirise the past seven days– not shying away from global stories, but always with a keen eye on what’s happening here in Wales. Points are rewarded for hilarity, insight or bare-faced flattery towards the host– anapproach inspired by the UK honours system.
The show will shine a spotlight on emerging Welsh talent both on air and behind the scenes, and for the second year running an open call for new writers promises to unveil even more budding stars of Welsh comedy. The inaugural episode will be recorded on the 22nd of May at Pontio in Bangor, and aired the following night on the 23rd of May. What Just Happened? will continue to air weekly until the grand finale at the Savoy Theatre in Monmouth on the 12th of June, airing on the 13th of June.
Co-creator Robin Morgan says: “When the BBC asked if we wanted a second series, I immediately said yes and then paid my license fee. I’m thrilled the show’s coming back- never has there been a better time to look at the news in Cymru and beyond. And to take the show on tour around the country is a dream – Kiri and I will be putting our foot down (to a maximum of 20mph) and we can’t wait to get started. To put out another open call for new Welsh writers is something we’re very proud of- so if you’re hilarious and want your jokes read out on the BBC- make sure you get in touch.”
Kiri Pritchard-McLean says: “We’ve got a general election looming, a heatwave in the post and a brand new First Minister in Wales. If this isn’t the best time to welcome back a new series I don’t know when is? (Only joking, I do, it’s a few weeks before I need to pay my tax bill). We’re also hitting the road and popping up in venues around the country so if you’re too lazy to read a newspaper you can come to the show and find out what’s happening in the world.”
Co-creator Henry Widdicombe says: “We’re thrilled to be bringing back What Just Happened? to Radio Wales for a second series. Working with the best Welsh comedy talent we couldn’t be prouder of our weekly topical news quiz.”
What Just Happened? is a Little Wander production for BBC Radio Wales.
