For the 5th year running, Bangor Rotarians continue to run a ‘RotaKids’ Club in Our Lady’s School in Bangor.

‘RotaKids’ is a weekly mini–Rotary Club for 10–11-year-olds, where the youngsters engage in the citizenship element of the curriculum, learning to take responsibility and organise projects to support their school, the local community, and national and international causes too.

Recently they have been learning to sew and helping to make “pillowcase bags” to support the local Food Bank by providing sturdy bags for carrying supplies home safely. They were thrilled to get a letter of thanks from the Food Bank volunteers!

The RotaKids were so moved by the plight of the Ukrainian people that the members also sent a good donation from their own fund-raising efforts to help with the crisis they are enduring.

Bangor Rotarians also held a collection in Bangor High Street to help the Ukrainian crisis, with many generous contributions, along with Rotarians’ personal and Club donations adding to total. This was sent to the Rotary International Disaster Relief Fund. This goes to Rotary Clubs in neighbouring countries who have volunteers working on the ground, thus meaning that all the money donated gets to where it is needed very quickly.  A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this.

The next exciting project is to organise the first “Volunteer Expo” in Bangor Cathedral on Saturday 28 May. This will be a chance for many local charities and organisations to display and celebrate their amazing community work. Open to the public, this event will be an opportunity to find out more about what these organisations do and maybe even sign up to volunteer for them.  Come along, discover, and celebrate – and support the work that these fabulously dedicated groups do.  Look out for more details in the near future.
