Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd, the hospital radio station at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, celebrated their 45th birthday in style recently by hosting an outside broadcast in Morrisons, Bangor where the radio station began broadcasting in the old C&A hospital, 45 years ago.

The radio station celebrated their huge milestone with a host of celebrity guests, past and present volunteers and special musical performances from Dylan Morris, Arfon Wyn and Dylan a Neil.

The hospital radio station which is run entirely by volunteers was overwhelmed by a generous donation of £900 from Anglesey Northern Soul presented by Vaughan Evans, popular Northern Soul DJ and Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd presenter.

An amazing £1,300 was raised during the day to support the running costs of Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd for the patients and our community.

Kevin Williams, Chairman of Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd, was delighted with the station’s 45-year milestone, he said: “Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd has continued to provide its valuable service to our patients and community for the last 45 years.

“Coming back to Morrisons in Bangor where Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd started broadcasting in the old C&A hospital has been an opportunity for us to share memories with our volunteers; past and present, while remembering volunteers who are sadly no longer with us.

“Thank you to all of our special guests who supported our 45 event and for all their support towards our station over the years.

“A special thank you to Leah and the team at Morrisons, Bangor for the lovely welcome and all their hard work in supporting our 45 celebrations. Looking forward to our 50th already!”

The station picked up a nomination in the Digital or RSL Station of The Year 2021 category for their work in serving the patients of Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor and the wider community were shortlisted in the top five from around the UK!

Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd will soon be sharing news of an exciting collaboration ready for Christmas.
