First Minister Mark Drakeford has announced that all shops can open from Monday 22 June in Wales, as long as they comply with social distancing rules to keep people two metres apart.
The five mile travel rule will remain for now, but could be lifted in two weeks (6 July) so people can “travel as far as they like for all purposes,” the first minister has said.
The easing of travel restrictions will allow people travel – including from England – for day trips or to stay in ‘self-contained’ accommodation such as second homes, holiday cottages, static caravans, and hotels where social distancing can be maintained.
Tourism businesses will then be able to take commercial bookings from a week later, Monday 13 July, he added.
But it’s understood campsites and hostels – anywhere with shared sleeping or bathroom facilities – will remain closed with no date set to reopen.
Mr Drakeford asked people to do “one more lap” and observe the “stay local” message for two more weeks
“If on 6 July, coronavirus is where we want it, we’ll confirm the stay local measures are over.”
But he said you could visit a family member more than five miles away over the next two weeks if you were concerned about their well-being.
“If you have a compassionate reason to visit a family member and not stay local over the next two weeks, you will be able to do that,” he added.
Schools
Unlike in England, schools in Wales will be open to pupils for all year groups from 29 June – but only for limited periods during the week, with only a third of pupils in school at any one time. Individual schools will work with local councils and inform parents accordingly on the safety measures in place.
Places of worship
Private prayer in places of worship will be allowed where social distancing is maintained and gatherings do not take place.
Housing market
Housing market will also re-open with viewings back on the cards.
Hairdressers
Hairdressers and salons have been advised to make prepartions for the next review on 9 July, when the Welsh Government will consider a range of specific options for opening” hairdressers and beauty – by appointment.
