Members of the Coed Mawr community group in Bangor, have called for CCTV cameras to be installed after a recent increase in anti-social behaviour.

Residents have complained about a number of incidents recently, which have included cars being scratched and tyres slashed, while other incidents have included vandalism; there have also been two recent incidents of arson, a fridge freezer was deliberately set on fire behind the old Blakemore store and more recently a resident’s conifer hedge was deliberately set on fire.

Other reports of anti-social behaviour on the estate, have included youths throwing stones, and in the last few days a number of complaints have been made about people wearing creepy clown masks, while eggs have also been thrown at people’s windows.

Local residents have now taken to the Facebook to voice their anger, one resident, who didn’t want to be named, said: “Coed Mawr used to be such a nice place to live years ago, but with all these problems, it’s not anymore.” while another said: “Coed Mawr is turning into a horrible place to live! We need CCTV!”

Eirian Williams Roberts, from the Coed Mawr and Glanadda Community Group, said: “It’s obvious through the increased amount of reports, with regard to problems on the estate, that things are getting out of hand and are now impacting the majority of the community. The call for CCTV to be installed is both reasonable and proportionate under the circumstances.”

Bangor City Councillor for the Coed Mawr area Colin King, is aware of the recent problems and has a meeting planned with local police officers, in an attempt to address the issues.

Mr King has worked considerably hard in the local area and in particular with the Coed Mawr community centre, providing activities for youngsters. North Wales Police also organised a number of fun days and events at the centre in an attempt to engage with the community, it was reported at the time there was a drop in the number of anti-social incidents following the events.
