Crime prevention packs will be delivered to 500 addresses in the Hirael area of Bangor, as part of the Safer Streets Project.

Created with the objective of tackling local acquisitive crimes like car theft and burglary, the Safer Streets Fund has a particular emphasis on the safety of women and girls.

The funding for the Hirael and lower High Street areas of Bangor will also see 41 new CCTV cameras installed along with improved street lighting and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras on Beach Road.

Councillor Keith Jones said: “Following an application to the Home Office for funding in the Hirael and lower High Street, I have been given the good news that our application was successful.

“A massive thanks to PC Lisa Thomas and North Wales Police, also to Catherine Eirlys Roberts, the Local Authority and the Highways department. They were pivotal in making the application possible and all worked hard to get this application across the line with limited time available.”

“Don’t forget to thank PC Lisa Thomas when you see her out and about. She deserves so much credit. It was her initiative and determination to go for the funding initially.”
