A former GP surgery in Bangor that once served patients for decades has been given a new lease of life, and it’s now home to a growing community of local businesses.

Glanfa Surgery on Orme Road closed in October 2020 after the retirement of its GPs, bringing an end to its long history as a medical practice. But today the building is buzzing again, with its consulting rooms transformed into spaces for a range of independent businesses offering health, wellbeing and professional services.

Many of the businesses now based at Glanfa are locally run and provide services that people across Bangor and Gwynedd regularly need.

One of them is Emily, a registered nurse who previously worked at Ysbyty Gwynedd. After recognising a growing demand for ear care services in the area, she launched her business Ear Wax Nurse in 2021, providing professional ear wax removal for local residents.

Also based at Glanfa is Zac Laraman, a highly respected osteopath specialising in sports and exercise injuries. With three decades of experience, Zac is widely recognised as one of the leading professionals in the Gwynedd area, helping patients recover from injury and improve mobility.

Healthcare expertise continues with Dr Pam Kainth, an NHS GP with a specialist interest in dermatology who runs Anvaya Aesthetics. The clinic offers a range of skin treatments including laser procedures and hair removal services.

The building is also home to Alchemy Hair and Aesthetics, run by Giulia, who offers a range of hair services alongside aesthetic treatments.

Meanwhile, Lexva, run by husband-and-wife team Colin and Nia Roberts, provides physiotherapy, massage therapy and a variety of exercise classes designed to support rehabilitation, strength and wellbeing.

Another local company based at the building is Cadnant Property Management, which provides cleaning services and property management support across the area.

Beauty services are also part of the mix, with M-Nails, run by Magda, offering gel nails, BIAB treatments, manicures and pedicures.

The only business operating from outside the local area is the Baby Ultrasound Clinic, which runs specialist clinics across the UK and offers 2D, 3D and 4D pregnancy scans from seven weeks onwards.

Several other rooms within the building are now used as office spaces, adding to the steady flow of visitors throughout the day.

For those working there, the transformation of Glanfa has been a positive development for Bangor.

At a time when many traditional commercial buildings in the city have struggled or closed, the former surgery has quietly become a lively hub with regular footfall and a wide mix of services under one roof.

It’s a reminder that sometimes the next chapter for a building can be just as valuable to the community as the first – especially when it helps local businesses grow and keeps people coming through the doors.
