Children at Ysgol Y Faenol in Bangor, who are studying Japan and the Rugby World Cup this term, will receive regular updates directly from Japan thanks to a pair of Welsh Dragons.

Last Monday, the school posted an appeal on social media asking if someone going to Japan could take a dragon with them and send the school photos of the trip. Luckily, the school had two very keen volunteers who have now taken the two Welsh Dragons on an adventure of a lifetime!

The children have named the dragons Deiniol and Dewi and photos are now arriving daily, providing an invaluable learning resource as the children are avidly following their trip.

Deiniol the Dragon is under the watchful eye of Sean Kelly from Bangor Rugby Club, while Dewi is being looked after by Ann Williams, the aunt of one of the teachers at the school.

So far the dragons have visited Japanese Temples and the Hiroshima memorial, and one has also travelled on the bullet train.

The school has also made links with a school in New Zealand and will be using technology to speak to the children on the other side of the world and will also teach them all about our local area.

On Monday children at Ysgol Y Faenol will be wearing red to show their support when Wales play Georgia.

The pictures of the two dragons are regularly posted on the school’s Twitter account and you can follow their adventures by following @ysgolfaenol on Twitter.

Let’s hope Deiniol and Dewi aren’t flying home too soon!
