The Students’ Union at Bangor University is currently working in partnership with Gwynedd Council, in order to reduce waste on the streets in the student areas of Bangor during the last few weeks of term, with the ‘Sort Your Junk’ campaign.

The campaign is a great help to students to dispose of excess un-recyclable waste incurred during the moving out process and the campaign has helped to keep the streets at a higher standard of cleanliness year on year.

These extra collections mean that in addition to the normal black bag/green bin collection there is the opportunity to dispose of excess waste without having to wait until the next scheduled collection.

The additional collection dates for this year are 28 May, 17 June and 1 July, on selected streets through Bangor. Students are urged to help keep Bangor tidy by utilising these collections when moving out of student homes.

The blue recycling boxes and the brown food waste bin will be collected as usual on a weekly basis during this time, and all students are encouraged to use these bins as they would normally. The extra collections still hold the same limitations as the regular green bin collections (up to three blacks or up to a full green wheeled bin) and all students are being encouraged to recycle waste effectively.

Students’ Union Vice President for Education said: “Your Students’ Union are currently working the local council to support you as the academic year comes to a close. We realise that this can be a stressful time of the year, first of all with exams, and then with moving out of your student house.

“We are trying to help by organising extra waste collection visits as well as designing an ‘end of term checklist’. All this information is available at www.UndebBangor.com/WrapitUp
