A Bangor man is set to achieve a truly unique feat next week – by running the entire length of a country in a single day.

On 14 November, Iwan Williams, who lives in Bangor and works at the university, will take on the challenge of running the full 16-mile length of Liechtenstein — from north to south — to raise money for Gôl! Cymru, the Welsh football supporters’ charity.

Iwan’s Alpine adventure coincides with Cymru’s FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Liechtenstein in the capital city, Vaduz, on 15 November. Liechtenstein, nestled between Austria and Switzerland, has a population of just 40,000 – fewer than Wrexham.

Speaking ahead of the challenge, Iwan said:

“I’m looking forward to the Liechtenstein running challenge! The country is 16 miles from north to south and I intend to run it on 14 November, the day before the Cymru game. I’ve raised money for Gôl! before and look forward to a different challenge — running cross-country, literally!”

Gôl! Cymru supports disadvantaged children and young people wherever the national team plays, providing practical help to children’s homes, hospitals, and youth centres in Cymru and abroad.

Iwan added that he’s grateful for any donations to support the cause. Contributions can be made through his JustGiving page:
