Bangor Summer Festival 2025 is turning up the volume this August with a show-stopping wave of big-name attractions and entertainment, completely free for everyone to enjoy.

Organisers Cllr Eirian Williams Roberts and Nigel Pickavance, over the last few weeks, have unveiled a line-up of must-see festival features and performances, designed to bring cinematic spectacle, nostalgic music, and full-throttle fun to the streets of Bangor on Saturday 16 August.

Following on from the already-announced tribute headliners—Fearlessly Taylor and Oasish – est 1995—this next wave of reveals puts the spotlight firmly on family-friendly interaction and unforgettable experiences.

Among the musical acts announced is CELT, one of the most iconic Welsh-language bands of the 1990s. Formed in Rachub near Bethesda, their infectious melodies and powerful ballads made them a household name across Wales. Their appearance at Bangor Summer Festival marks a long-awaited return to the stage for the beloved local rockers.

Joining them is Sara Owen, the sensational bilingual singer who captured the hearts of viewers as a finalist on this year’s Y Llais, the Welsh version of The Voice. Representing Team Bryn (Bryn Terfel), Sara’s emotive voice and captivating stage presence make her one of the most exciting young artists to emerge from North Wales in recent years.

For families and young adventurers, the entertainment steps into larger-than-life territory. Dinosaurs will roam the streets in spectacular walkabout performances, combining jaw-dropping costumes with thrilling shows and interactive treasure hunts. These prehistoric giants promise a truly immersive experience for children and families, delivering wonder and excitement in every roar.

Audiences will also be treated to all-day circus workshops where children can try their hand at juggling, plate-spinning, and clowning around, along with an extraordinary UV puppet show full of glowing surprises. Add in festival games and inflatables courtesy of local partners like Youth Services and Byw’n Iach, and there’s non-stop fun from start to finish.

On the cinematic side of the festival, Bangor will welcome a fleet of screen icons to the city centre.

Lightning McQueen—the legendary red race car from Disney’s Cars—will make a high-octane appearance. Full-size, full shine, and built for WOW-factor, this showstopper is ready for photo ops and up-close moments that’ll thrill fans of all ages.

Also cruising into town are two of the most recognisable robots in film history: Optimus Prime and Bumblebee. These towering Transformers will take part in walkabouts and meet-and-greets on Bangor High Street, bringing blockbuster energy to the day. With their towering presence and Hollywood-grade detail, these heroes of the Autobot world promise an experience like nothing the city has seen before.

And finally, Ghostbusters fans are in for a paranormal treat. Ecto-1, the iconic vehicle from the beloved movie franchise, will roll into Bangor with a full team of suited Ghostbusters—and even Slimer in tow. Travelling from Staffordshire and Merseyside, these dedicated reenactors are bringing the full package: proton packs, sirens, and unforgettable photo opportunities for every fan who ever shouted, “Who you gonna call?”

Cllr Eirian Williams Roberts, one of the festival organisers, said: “We know how hard it can be for families to find a day out that’s affordable, exciting, and packed with variety. That’s why we’ve pulled together a lineup that offers something for everyone—from young Swifties to lifelong Oasis fans and from dinosaur-obsessed toddlers to nostalgic rock lovers. This is Bangor’s Big Day Out, and we want the whole of Bangor (and beyond!) to be here for it.”

Cllr Nigel Pickavance, who leads on attractions, added: “You’ll never forget walking down the High Street and suddenly seeing Bumblebee roll past, or having your photo taken with Lightning McQueen and Ecto-1. This is like Bangor’s own blockbuster movie, and every family gets to star in it—for free.”

Bangor Summer Festival 2025 takes place on Saturday 16 August across Bangor High Street, the main festival stage, and surrounding areas. Entry is entirely free, with all performances, meet-and-greets, workshops, and shows included at no cost to the public.
