Volunteers are being sought by the long-established Hope House Tŷ Gobaith store in Bangor city centre.

Shop volunteers make an enormous contribution to the work that Hope House Tŷ Gobaith Children’s Hospices do in making sure no one faces the death of their child alone.

Volunteers form the backbone of the organisation and are highly valued as Volunteering Officer Diane Murr explained: “We couldn’t keep our shops open without the support of our brilliant volunteers.

“From serving people at the till, to making the shop look beautiful and organising deliveries, they are always willing to help.

“We have roles to suit anybody – you can even do your Duke of Edinburgh with us from the age of 13.”

Not only is volunteering a brilliant way to stay busy and keep skills current, it’s also a great way to make friends and meet people – who knows, it could even turn into a career as it did for Bangor shop manager Kirsty Camilleri who has worked at both Chester and Bangor sites.

Kirsty said: “I started volunteering about 11 years ago when I was in University in Chester and enjoyed it so much I decided to pursue it again in Bangor where I am from.

“I soon became Assistant Manager and then a year later was promoted to Shop Manager.

“I really enjoy building relationships, the shop really is a great place to work and volunteer and knowing we provide funding for Hope House Tŷ Gobaith gives a real sense of pride.

“We would especially love to attract more volunteers to help turn our donations into much needed funds.

“Don’t worry if you’ve never worked in retail before as full training is available and a willingness to learn and positive attitude are just as important.”

If you would like to get involved then pop into your local store and speak to the manager or email volunteer@hopehouse.org.uk
