A community group is calling on local businesses to support their project transforming an over grown park in Maes Tryfan, Bangor, known locally as ‘Cae Doctor’.

Grwp Cymunedol Maestryfan Community Group were recently awarded £30,000 to create a community green space on the estate, but they are asking businesses to sponsor a planter, to help complete the project.

The community group have campaigned tirelessly to improve the area and made applications to Menter Mon, the Welsh Government and European funding, to create the green space on the site, which is next to the existing playground.

Jackie Spence, a committee member of Grwp Cymunedol Maestryfan, said: “We’re calling all local businesses and supporters, would you like to sponsor a planter with a one off payment?

“Maestryfan Community Group need your support to cover the cost of these amazing planters, located at our new Community Garden in Maestryfan. We also have benches and picnic tables to be sponsored too.

“For just a one off payment starting of just £300, you, or your business could be part of something special. You could even sponsor one in memory of a loved one.

“In return, we will maintain your planter and install a plaque for you, we can also advertise your business on our ‘Cae Doctor’ Facebook page.

“As a not-for-profit organisation, all proceeds will be used to support the regeneration of the Lon y Glyder playground, or Cae Doctor.”

In addition to local contractors, a number of volunteers from the Penrhyn House recovery Community have been helping with the project.

Jackie added: “Working alongside the Maes Tryfan Community Group, North Wales Wildlife Trust, Keep Wales Tidy plus other local organisations and businesses, they are helping to transform a piece of disused space into a new community garden.

“Not only have they have been putting their skills to the test, they have been doing their bit to make recovery visible. Their efforts have been really well received so far.”
