Gwynedd Council is taking part in the UK Refugee Resettlement Programme and they are looking for properties in the Bangor area.
Families have resettled in Gwynedd under the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme, but the council are still looking for affordable accommodation for refugees.
According to the refugee council “resettlement offers one of the only routes to safety for vulnerable Syrians affected by the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.”
The Syrian Resettlement Programme aimed to help the most vulnerable – survivors of torture, people with serious medical conditions, and women with children. They were identified by the UN then screened by the Home Office before being resettled in the UK.
Criteria for suitable accommodation:
- Accommodation should be of a suitable standard, self-contained and include adequate kitchen and bathroom facilities.
- Rent will be paid at Local Housing Allowance (LHA) level.
- The property should be available for a minimum period of at least 24 months.
- Gwynedd Council are specifically looking for properties in the Bangor area, or within a 10 mile radius which has a good bus service.
