Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team were alerted to a group of walkers stranded at Cwm Idwal on Thursday, 29 April, which turned out to be a herd of goats!
A climber on ‘Idwal Slabs’ heard repeated ‘shouts for help’ and could see a group stationary on broken ground on what he thought was the flank of Y Garn.
With no 999 calls received, a small team from the Mountain Rescue Team set off to gain more information.
The informant met with the team and said the group was now moving slowly downward but it now became apparent they weren’t people, but a herd of goats making their way down the mountain and had been bleating loudly!
A spokesperson from the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team said: “This now proves the goats are on to us and have evolved their tactics to improve their chances of deploying the team on false alaaaarms!
“All joking aside, it was a false alarm with good intent and the team will always respond to people’s concerns for their fellow mountaineers…..and goats.”
