Over the Firebreak Lockdown young people in Gwynedd have been busy creating masks for an online exhibition with museum and gallery, Storiel, in Bangor, organised by the Opportunities Academy at GISDA.

Despite the national restrictions the young people’s charity GISDA put together “creation bags” for each young person that wanted to participate, with the kind donation of creative materials from Storiel, and distributed them in Caernarfon and Blaenau Ffestiniog.

There was an excellent response from the young people and their work can now be viewed online, alongside the works of professional artists like Josie Russell, Twinkle & Gloom and Jonathan Polkest.

Miles, Saffron, Levi, Ashley, Shaun, Oliver and Patrick all put their own stamp on their masks and they all really enjoyed the opportunity. Local families have also put their hands to the task and everyone’s work can now be seen on Storiel’s website.

The masks created by the professional artists are now available to be purchased in a special auction to raise money for the GISDA charity and which supports vulnerable and homeless young people in Gwynedd. The auction runs until Sunday,13th  December. To make a bid for a mask, follow the link to the online auction https://www.32auctions.com/storiel

Lyndsey Thomas, Support and Development Manager with GISDA, said: “GISDA would like to thank Storiel for raising money to support out work with homeless and vulnerable young people in Gwynedd. The pandemic has been a difficult time for young people in general and it continues to be so.

“The percentage of young people that are out of work has increased and this is the group that has been hardest hit. We believe that creative arts is very beneficial to a person’s mental health therefore our Academi Cyfleon (Opportunities Academy) will also be taking part in the activity.”
