A 19 year-old man from Anglesey has been jailed for three years, after he attacked four lone females in the Bangor area.

Andrew Cashmore-Thorley, of Bryngwran, Anglesey, admitted criminal damage and having a knife with which he slashed his mum’s car tyre in August last year, a malicious phone call in September when he threatened to stab her, inflicting grievous bodily harm in October and three assaults on 5 November.

One of the victims was seriously injured as a result of the attacks, suffering a fractured hip and elbow, which required surgery. Judge Nicola Jones at Caernarfon crown court said the assault on the woman in Deiniol Road, Bangor had a huge impact on her.

Five days later a young woman had been struck from behind and punched in the face on Bangor High Street. The court heard that the defendant stood there laughing after the assault.

Cashmore-Thorley had then assaulted a university student, pushing her against a wall and leaving her shaken. Finally, he pushed a charity volunteer to the ground.

Judge Jones said the defendant was vulnerable and had a ‘psychotic episode’ when he assaulted the women. An expert Professor felt Cashmore-Thorley needed treatment. A psychiatric report will be passed to prison authorities.
