In a brand new partnership with the world-famous Hay literary Festival, prominent critic and professor of American literature Sarah Churchwell visits Pontio Arts and Innovation Centre in Bangor on Thursday 23 January at 7.30pm.

During the evening Sarah Churchwell will be in conversation with Peter Florence, director of Hay Festival in Theatr Bryn Terfel about her latest book, ‘Behold, America: A History of America First and the American Dream’ (Bloomsbury) which explores the history of ‘America First’, a favourite slogan of Donald Trump and his supporters.

She has also judged many literary prizes, including the Mann Booker Prize.

Osian Gwynn, Director of Pontio Arts said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to gain an insight into America and American politics from someone who has written extensively on this fascinating country that fills our news headlines daily.”

Peter Florence, director of Hay Festival, added: “We are thrilled to bring Sarah Churchwell to Bangor to discuss her exacting and sensational book, Behold, America. In it, she overturns everything we thought we knew about the American dream,

“America First and the battle for the identity of modern America. She sherlocks the astonishing connections between Donald Trump and Walter Scott, DW Griffith and the KKK. She is phenomenal on stage. Join us.”
