Pontio arts centre in Bangor will reopen today, Tuesday 20 April, following a fire on the 5th floor of the building on Monday, where minor construction work was taking place to repair the roof.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service responded to an emergency call at 11.50am on Monday, four fire engines from Bangor, Menai Bridge, Caernarfon and Amlwch attended the incident.
Following the discovery of the fire the building was evacuated and there were no injuries whatsoever.
A spokesman for Bangor University, which manages Pontio, said: “The fire began after tar being heated for the repair works set fire to insulation.
“It is not yet clear how much damage has been caused but the blaze was limited to a small section of the roof.”
Pontio remained closed on Monday due to the smell of smoke and anyone who had booked tickets for the cinema will be able to transfer their tickets or receive a refund. Today’s performance of ‘Bost-Uni Plues’ scheduled for the Studio this evening (30.4.19) will also be rescheduled.
