Paul Martin Jordan, who was found guilty of murdering his estranged wife Elizabeth (Betty) Jordan at her Maesgeirchen home in Bangor, has been found dead at Altcourse prison.

Jordan, 54, was found guilty of murder at Caernarfon Crown Court in May this year and was sentenced to serve a minimum of 14 years in prison. Jordan had admitted killing his wife in July 2017, on the grounds of diminished responsibility, but he was found guilty of murder by a jury following a six day trial.

After sentencing Defence barrister Gordon Cole QC said Paul Jordan knew a life sentence would be imposed and that he knew he had to pay the penalty for what he had done. Mr Cole added that Jordan had told him to tell the court publicly that he was “remorseful and sorry” but he still had no idea how the events unfolded on the fateful day.

An independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will now be held after Jordan was found dead in custody on 6th July.
