Over 400 fans braved the wind and torrential rain to watch Bangor 1876 play their first game in the Gwynedd League against Ogwen Tigers at Bethesda Rugby Club.

The conditions would make flowing football nearly impossible, but 1876 had an opportunity to take an early lead after 5 minutes when they were awarded penalty after Jamie Petrie was fouled.

The opportunity was missed as Dylan Summers-Jones sent the spot kick sailing over the crossbar and between the uprights of the rugby posts behind, a well kicked penalty and 3pts on another day at the rugby club perhaps.

Summers-Jones soon made amends though when he scored the opening goal on 28 minutes, much to the delight of the by now, drenched Bangor fans.

Ogwen Tigers weren’t here just to make up the numbers though, quick to the tackle and fighting for every ball, they had their reward on 36’ when Kieron Bullock levelled the score.

The rain eased in the second-half allowing Bangor to adopt their passing game and the rewards followed.

Dylan Summers-Jones headed into the net from a corner-kick on 54’ to give Bangor the lead. Jamie Petrie extended the lead from a Benn Lundstram assist on 62’ and Lundstram added the fourth goal of the afternoon for 1876, with a neat header.
