Bangor 1876 will play their first ever league game on Saturday afternoon, 10 August, when they play Ogwen Tigers at Bethesda Rugby Club.
1876 manager Mel Jones has built up a strong squad of players, opting for a mixture of youth and experience, with former Bangor City players Les Davies, Michael Johnston, Jamie Petrie signing.
The new look side has settled well, with Leon Jones impressing in goal, Cian Williams and Michael Johnston bonding at the back and Dion Jones anchoring a midfield behind the Les Davies, Jamie Petrie and Dylan Summers Jones. 1876 have beaten every North Wales team they’ve faced in pre-season, with all of their opposition playing in a league or two above.
Most of the 1876 squad have played at a considerably higher level than Gwynedd League, some in the Welsh Premier League and Europe, so on that basis alone they must rank as the title favourites.
Hundreds of Bangor fans are expected to make the short trip to Bethesda tomorrow, guaranteeing the Tigers a bumper crowd.
1876 captain Michael Johnston will miss the game as he completes a suspension from last season, while the experienced Iwan Williams is out until at least mid-September with a torn Achilles tendon.
