A Mercedes car caught speeding at 81mph in a 40mph zone along Holyhead Road in Bangor has been seized by police, just hours after being returned to the driver which was also seized the previous night by Bangor officers.

Following a number of reports of anti-social driving in the Bangor area, officers seized the vehicle on Friday under Section 59 of Police Reform Act, which states that a vehicle can be seized if a police officer or PCSO believes the way the vehicle is being driven “is causing, or likely to cause, alarm distress or annoyance to members of the public.”

Just hours after the car was returned, an unmarked vehicle from the roads policing unit stopped the car speeding on Holyhead Road.

A statement on facebook from the North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit read: “Following several complaints in relation to the manner of driving of a white Mercedes AMG in the Bangor area over the weekend, one of our officers in an unmarked RPU vehicle went out looking

“The vehicle was caught travelling at 81mph on Holyhead Road (bearing in mind this is a 40mph zone).

“The car was stopped and issued a Traffic Offence Report for the offence.
Sadly for the driver, the same officer had stopped him back in December 2018 and issued him with a Section 59 warning due to his manner of driving.

“As a result the vehicle was seized on this occasion, only a few hours after the driver had got it back from in being seized the previous night by Bangor officers for…..yes you’ve guessed it, his manner of driving!”
