Bangor City Football Club moved a step closer to hosting a professional boxing event after the Eurogold Stadium was approved by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Officials from the Boxing Board of Control attended the club’s ground on 28 April to observe the facilities ahead of the planned event.

Sheffield boxing promoter Dennis Hobson, in association with Vaughan Sports Management, plan to host an evening of professional boxing at the venue.

Hobson is a key figure in British and world boxing. He has been central to some of the sport’s biggest nights, and pivotal to the careers of some of boxing’s most-recognised names including Clinton Woods, Ricky Hatton, David Haye, and Carl Thompson.

Earlier this year Hobson revealed that he plans to host twenty shows a year in 2019, with all of these being shown exclusively on FreeSports.

The Bangor event, which will be billed ‘Mayhem On The Menai’ is believed to be the first professional boxing in the city since 1979 – when Dave Davies stopped Clifton Wallace on a card promoted by Liverpool’s Charles Atkinson – and the first ever championship boxing to be hosted in North Wales.

Details regarding the show, ticket information and an official date, will be announced soon.
