Police launched a search near Ysgol-y-Garnedd in Bangor today after a pupil reported seeing what appeared to be someone dressed as a clown and acting in a suspicious manner in fields by the school.

A North Wales Police statement read: “Shortly after 12.40pm today North Wales Police responded to a call from staff at Ysgol-y-Garnedd in Penrhos Road, Bangor after a 9 year old pupil reported seeing what appeared to be someone dressed as a clown acting in a suspicious manner in fields at the rear of the school.

“Several Police Officers were deployed to the area but despite a thorough and prolonged search they found no trace of any suspicious person.

“Sergeant Dana Baxter said, ‘We are keeping an open mind as to what may have been sighted and officers will remain in the area to provide a visible presence and provide community reassurance. If anyone has any information which may assist identify the individual please contact Police on 101 ref W075769”

A police helicopter was also seen circling the area, parents were informed of the incident and there was a police presence at primary schools in the area this afternoon to reassure pupils and parents.

Parents of Children at Ysgol Cae Top received this message:

“There was a stranger sighted outside Ysgol-y-Garnedd, on Brewery Fields earlier this afternoon.

“According to some of their children, the person was wearing a clown mask and was acting suspiciously.

“Children were kept in at Ysgol Cae Top, with all entrances and gates locked.

“The police have concluded their search on foot, by helicopter and with dogs and note that the area is safe for children to return outside.”
