The second phase of the improvement work at Ysbyty Gwynedd’s Emergency Department is now complete.
The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services, Vaughan Gething approved £13.89 million funding to reshape the emergency and urgent care services at the hospital in 2017.
The work during the second phase has provided temporary accommodation for the Majors Unit that treats patients who have more serious conditions. These patients may need full and comprehensive investigations and may require admission to hospital.
A temporary resuscitation room has also been relocated to the new build until the final phase of the work is complete. Here, patients with critical or life threatening emergencies are treated and cared for.
Dr Richard Griffiths, Emergency Department Consultant, said the staff were delighted with the improvements to their workspace so far. He said: “We now have a much more modern, fit for purpose Emergency Department and we are excited that the final phase of the improvement work has just started which will give us our permanent home for resus and majors. All of this will enable us to deliver better patient care.”
Also moving into their new clinical areas were the Minor Injuries Unit team, who now have three new treatment rooms and a more sub spacious waiting area for patients.
The Casting Services team have also moved into their new airier plaster room which will enable them to provide an improved service for patients along with a more comfortable sub waiting area.
Emergency Department Assistant, Steven Williams, who has worked at the hospital for 15 years, said: “We are delighted to move into the new plaster room within the Emergency Department.
“This provides us with better access to the rest of the department and to the clinics nearby so we can provide a better service for our patients.”
The final phase of the work is now underway which will see the former Beuno Ward transformed into a new Major & Resuscitation Unit.
The project is due to be completed later this year.
