Over 100 shoeboxes containing everyday essentials and gifts for the homeless have been collected and delivered to St Mary’s Hostel in Bangor. The boxes will now be distributed to homeless people in the local area in time for Christmas.

Lauren Toal, a 3rd year student at Bangor University, organised the appeal, which is now in its 3rd year. Lauren said: “This is the third year I’ve organised the shoebox appeal, it has been an amazing success making a positive difference to people in the community.

“This year has been the biggest collection to date we collected well over 100 boxes. I’m taken back in amazement and proud of the heart warming generosity shown by the local community every year.

“I would like to give a massive thank you to Cat and the lovely staff at DW Sports Bangor, Bangor Students Union and Academi Coffee shop for helping set up donation collection points as well as Helen and Premier Cars Bangor for helping and with delivering the boxes.

“Most of all thank you to everyone who shared the posts and donated, you have made so many people have a smile on their face this Christmas.”
