The official trailer has been released for Danny Boyle’s latest film ‘Yesterday’ about a world where only one person remembers The Beatles.

Boyle, who graduated with a degree in English and Drama from Bangor in 1978, directs the film, from a screenplay by Richard Curtis and a story by Jack Barth.

The musical comedy stars Himesh Patel – who played Tamwar Masood in EastEnders, Lily James from Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Cinderella and Ghostbusters star, Kate McKinnon. It also features a cameo appearance from Ed Sheeran.

In the film Patel plays Jack Malik, who is about to turn his back on a failing music career. After a freak accident, being hit by a bus during a worldwide power cut, he wakes up to find he’s the only person in the world who remembers The Beatles and their songs.

Jack takes this opportunity to kick-start his musical career by plagiarizing the once known songs and he becomes one of the most talented musicians of all time. While his newfound success dramatically changes his life for the better, he struggles to hold onto the relationships with his friends and family.

After graduating from Bangor University Danny Boyle directed cult films such as Trainspotting, Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire and the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony.

Yesterday opens in cinemas on 28 June 2019.
