New plans have been submitted to change the former ‘Mirage’ nightclub on Bangor High Street into 3 retail units together with 8 self-contained flats.
The nightclub was also known as ‘Joop’ and ‘Barrels’ and closed in 2016.
The new plans hope to convert the former club into 5 x 1 bedroom self-contained flat (2 at ground floor and 3 at first floor) 3 x 2 bedroom self-contained flats (1 at ground floor and 1 at first floor and 1 at second floor) and 3 retail/ commercial units (frontage- ground floor)
A previous planning application for 8 retail units and 4 self contained flats was approved in April 2018, however, the new planning application describes the previous plans as “financially difficult to implement given the fall in local demand and more significantly, that the buildings location was remotely located outside the established retail channel.”
The new proposal claims to “balance the importance of the City Centre regeneration in retaining a realistic demand for retail floor area in the area and counterbalance this requirement with a mutually beneficial residential development.”
