Dafydd Hardy Estate Agents celebrated 25 years in business this week, in this article Dafydd Hardy looks back at the 25 years, how the business started and how things have changed over the years.
Dafydd Hardy said: “Richard (Thomas) & I started the business back in 1992 and so much as changed in our 25 years of local business. Back then interest rates were a lot higher, 9%-10%, petrol was a lot cheaper, 40p/litre, and the average house price was an unbelievable £61,000. The internet was only a year old, and relatively unheard of, with Windows 3.1 being the ‘cutting-edge’ software developed by a young Bill Gates!”
A passion for property and customer service
“We were two local lads with a passion for property, customer service and the latest technology. While our core values haven’t changed; properties, technology and the market certainly have – not to mention the wrinkles! Today we employ over 50 local staff, across 6 sites with 10 different departments – a long way from two qualified surveyors sat in our respective empty offices at Bangor and Caernarfon.
“Back then we were the first local agents to use floor plans on all our brochures, using innovative software from America. Had photographs developed and glued them to the brochures and stored all our contacts in book, not an iPhone! While the technology has dramatically changed, the business itself has also developed, with us now having professional photographers, property & aerial drone videos, a mobile app, property portals such as Rightmove & OnTheMarket, full page colour brochures, virtual tours, a website that see’s the majority of traffic from mobile & tablet users and of course not forgetting Facebook & Twitter! Customer service is still very important to us and being contactable & offering accompanied viewings 7 days a week is an important part of the unique Dafydd Hardy experience. If that wasn’t enough, our lettings property management team are contactable 24 hours a day!
The Welsh language has always been important
“The Welsh language has always been an important aspect of the business, with over 70% of the team fluent and all documents available in both English & Welsh. This year we sponsored and supported the Eisteddfod in Anglesey, which was a fantastic event for the local community. As a trustee of Ysgol Tryfan I feel it’s important to promote and support the language. Another emphasis has always been to support local charities and businesses, where possible. We’ve helped many organisations but have had a real focus on Awyr Las #TeamIrfon and Hospice at Home over the past few years. The passing of Irfon was a terrible loss personally and to the community. I’ve fond memories of him & Becky opening our new Bangor office a few years ago, and wish he could be with us to celebrate this milestone.
Most of all I’d like to thank all our staff
“We’d like to thank everyone for supporting the business over the past 25 years. Whether they be customers, suppliers, contractors, family or friends – you’re been vital to our success. Most of all I’d like to thank all our staff. A business is nothing without people and we’ve had the privilege of working with a brilliant team both now and over the last 25 years. Not all of them are still with us today, but they’re contribution to the business has allowed us to excel in our field. However, there is one person who has been with us throughout this period and still today – Carys our most experienced “go to” person and Senior Branch Manager. Last year we had the honour of being named the Best Sale, Lettings & Overall Agent in Wales by reviews on AllAgents.co.uk which is the trip advisor for estate agents – and the largest independent estate agent review site in the UK. We couldn’t have done this without them. Here’s to the next 25!”
