Bangor City Football Club have promised they will bring big-time boxing back to Bangor in the next few months.

The club’s EuroGold Stadium will host an evening of championship boxing on a date to be confirmed in due course.

The show, which will be billed ‘Mayhem On The Menai’, will be screened exclusively live on a British free-to-air sports channel and be promoted by Vaughan Sports Management (VSM) Europe in conjunction with a top promoter.

The event is believed to be the first professional boxing in the city since 1979 – when Bangor boxer Dave Davies stopped Clifton Wallace on a card promoted by Liverpool’s Charles Atkinson – and the first ever championship boxing to be hosted in North Wales.

Bangor City recently announced the return of Stephen Vaughan Jr as their new club chairman and he vowed to “safeguard the club‘s future“ following a number of on and off-field problems, which has resulted in the club being relegated to the Cymru Alliance League with huge debts with a number of bills being unpaid.

Vaughan Jr, also a licensed boxing promoter, has promoted numerous boxing events, including World title fights both in the U.K. and in Malta. He brought Malta their first ever professional boxing World Champion when he promoted Steve Martin’s World Championship win vs Graham Earl on 22 August 2014.

Details regarding the show, including the identity of the broadcaster, fighters on the show, ticket information and an official date, will follow.
