Bangor City Council have announced that the Pierhead at Garth Pier in Bangor will close from the 4th June 2018 due to health and safety reasons, following an adverse Health and Safety report.

The Pierhead is likely to remain closed for the next nine moths as it is considered to be a danger to the general public. Unfortunately the Tea Room Pavilion will also be closed as a result of the urgent work and refurbishment.

The process of repairing and renovating the superstructure of the pier began last summer and despite a large amount of scaffolding, the pier has remained fully open during this time.

The city council has apologised for any inconvenience during this time but the work is deemed necessary to secure the stability and safety of the Pier for future generations to enjoy.

The restoration work is estimated to cost £1 million and will take up to three years to complete, it is the first major restoration work to take place on Bangor Pier since the 1980s.
