Bangor has the highest concentration of self-published authors in Wales, according to data released by Amazon. The city, has more authors per capita publishing their work through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) programme than any other town or city, followed by Aberystwyth, Llandudno and Newport.
Internationally renowned self-published author LJ Ross, author of the DCI Ryan series of romantic suspense thrillers, said: “As Wales’ oldest city, Bangor is soaked in history and culture. A walk along its streets will fill you with inspiration and it’s no surprise that the city has topped Amazon’s independent publishing charts.“
The rankings were released in conjunction with news that the Amazon Academy for Authors – a free event providing aspiring authors with advice and support – will be held at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport on September 11th.
Writers who are keen to find out more about self-publishing can register to attend here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/amazon-academy-wales-tickets-47292891311
The free event is open to everyone and is run in partnership with Enterprise Nation, the Department for International Trade, Be the Spark Wales and Be the Business. In addition to insight on how to write a bestseller, the Amazon Academy for Authors will also cover best practice for publishing books in print and digital via KDP, Amazon’s independent publishing programme.
“Wales is a country steeped in literary history. It’s the birthplace of Roald Dahl and many other world-famous authors who have fuelled the imagination of readers for many years, so we’re incredibly excited to be bringing our Amazon Academy for Authors event to Newport in September,” said Darren Hardy, Manager, Kindle Direct Publishing UK, Amazon.
“We hope the event will offer local writers the opportunity to obtain valuable advice from established authors who were once in their shoes and learn how to get their work read around the world through Kindle Direct Publishing.”
Commenting on the benefits of Kindle Direct Publishing, author Mark Dawson added: “Kindle Direct Publishing has helped me build a successful writing career. It’s simple to use and a great way to get your books into the hands of readers fast. I look forward to sharing my experiences using Kindle Direct Publishing at the Amazon Academy.”
Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) is a programme that allows authors to reach a potential audience of millions of readers both digitally and in print. KDP enables authors to retain their copyrights, keep control, distribute globally, get to market fast and do it for free. With royalties of up to 70%, thousands of authors now earn a living through KDP. All books published through KDP are available on Kindle and Fire devices as well as the Kindle reading app for iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets.
The Amazon Academy for authors will take place alongside an Amazon Academy for small businesses in Wales, which will offer free practical advice to help them boost their export sales and grow their revenue through e-commerce.
