The Bangor Karate Union (BKU) squad from Bangor University attended the Yorkshire Open Championships in Barnsley last week claiming five medals.
Competing across all disciplines in a total of seven categories, it was the first outside competition the team have attended and it was a fantastic day.
The day started with Kata. The female novice competitors dominated their category taking 1st (Amy Hepburn) 2nd (Bethany Pettifor) and 3rd place (Belinda Cano).
Then came the turn of the fighters in Kumite. Elisha Sudlow-Poole fought very well against the world champion. After landing some fantastic punches she was taken out in the semi finals, taking a bronze medal with her.
The male lightweight category was the final success of the day. Sean England reached the semi-finals and took bronze after an intense match.
The BKU congratulates all their well deserved medallists and competitors who did themselves, the club and the university proud.
