Bangor featured in one of the jokes on ITV’s comedy Benidorm on Wednesday night, as part of Mateo Castellanos’ x-rated best man speech at Joyce Temple-Savage’s wedding to Monty.
The comedy show, which is now in its 10th series, follows the lives of Brits abroad at the all-inclusive The Solana hotel in the heart of Benidorm, with hilarious consequences. The show features an all-star cast and often features ex-soap stars and famed faces from British TV.
The first episode of series 10 featured Joyce Temple–Savage, the long-suffering manager of the Solana Hotel, marrying Monty, played by John Challis. After being informed they would be getting married on penguin island, Joyce managed to overcome her seasickness and said “I do” with a few comedy glitches along the way, but the script writers saved the best jokes for Mateo’s speech.
In the speech barman Mateo, played by Jake Canuso, said: “I hope Monty and Joyce have a lovely honeymoon in Wales. I think this is where they are going because John said after the wedding he is going to Bangor for a few days first.”
Mateo concluded his speech by saying: “Bangor is a town in Wales …. Which is in England”
Viewers quickly took to Twitter after the show, the Tweets included:
