Bangor City haven’t been invited to participate in next season’s Irn-Bru (Scottish Challenge) Cup which includes teams from Scotland and two teams, by invitation, from Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and for the first time, two teams from the Vanarama National League in England.
The cup competition features ‘Colt’ sides – Under-20 teams from Scottish Premiership clubs – Joining the 30 teams from the Scottish Championship, League One and League Two as well as two sides from each of the Lowland League and Highland League.
The Scottish Football Association invited two teams from Northern Ireland and Wales into the tournament for the first time in 2016/2017.
From the leagues outside Scotland, the top two sides who still compete in the division are invited to enter the tournament, entering the competition in the second round. Bangor City’s place, as the Welsh Premier League’s second place team, will now be given to Connah’s Quay Nomads, because of Bangor’s relegation due to their license failure. The New Saints will also represent the Welsh Premier League.
Sutton United and Boreham Wood will compete from the Vanarama National League alongside the Irish (Bohemians and Bray Wanderers) and Northern Irish (Crusaders and Coleraine) teams.
