Bangor City have been drawn to play Caernarfon Town in the 4th Round of the Welsh Cup. The match will be played at Bangor’s Nantporth Stadium on the weekend of 25th-26th January 2019.
Caernarfon Town have enjoyed a resurgence in the last few seasons, gaining promotion back to the Welsh Premier League, where they have impressed with victories over Connah’s Quay Nomads, TNS and Cardiff Met Uni. ‘The Canaries’ currently sit 7th in the Welsh Premier table and European football via the Welsh Premier Play-offs or by winning the Welsh Cup, is a real possibility for them this season.
Bangor meanwhile have a great history in this competition, having won the trophy eight times, including three consecutive winning seasons between 2008-2010.
Despite Bangor’s relegation and indifferent performances this season in the Cymru Alliance, the form book will be thrown out of the window for this one, as one of the greatest rivalries in Welsh Football is resumed.
The teams last played each other in the league cup in 2015, when Caernarfon edged the game 1-0, with a crowd of well over 1,000 turning out to watch.
This game will definitely be a feisty encounter on and off the field as old rivalries are resumed and the prize of a quarter-final place in the Welsh Cup at stake, as well as the all important local bragging-rights.
