Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG), North Wales’ largest housing association, have submitted plans to build 9 affordable housing units on the former Kwik Save site, more recently Bangor Play Centre, at 371-373 Bangor High Street.
Under the plans the existing building would be demolished and 9 Properties would be built, consisting of : 3 x 1 Bedroom Apartments and 6 x 2 Bedroom Apartments with parking .
All dwellings will be allocated to meet local needs and waiting lists generated through various survey reports. The Tenure of these properties will be affordable for local people.
Prospective tenants must complete official applications through Gwynedd Council’s Housing Options Team. The application form give’s consideration and additional weighting to local connections, namely:
- Currently living in Hirael and the wider Bangor area – and have done so for a minimum of 5 years.
- Have a local connection with Hirael, Bangor; namely having previously lived in the city for a period of not less than 5 years.
CCG currently has 6,287 affordable rented homes, 1,583 of these are located within the 8 electoral wards of Bangor, but only 122 of these are located within the Hirael ward. Given the need for housing in the Hirael area (509 applicants) there is a very high demand for additional affordable housing units.
The 9 additional housing units proposed for the Kwik Save site will allow CCG greater flexibility with the management of its existing housing stock enabling applicants with the greatest need the opportunity to be accommodated in quality affordable homes that are suitable for their needs.
A drop in event will be held at the Hirael Club on Ambrose Street on 27th September 2018, between 4pm – 6pm. The consultation event offers the public the opportunity to see plans, receive information and share your opinion about the proposed development.
