An innovative new App can tell people who are ill or injured how many people are waiting to be seen at their nearest hospital, saving hours waiting to be seen and easing pressure on emergency departments.
The App enables people to see ‘Live Waiting Times’ in Emergency Departments and Minor Injury Units across North Wales, the App also gives opening times, contact details and directions to the different units, as well as outlining the types of care they provide.
Yesterday the App showed that over 60 patients were waiting to be seen at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor, with a waiting time of over 4 hours, while the Minor Injury unit at Ysbyty Penrhos Stanley had just 2 patients waiting with an estimated 10 minute wait. At the same time Alltwen Minor Injury Unit at Tremadog, had just one patient waiting to be seen.
Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board advise: “As emergency services are very busy and getting busier, please only use the Emergency Department (A&E) in very serious or life threatening sitautions. They are there to help people who show signs of being very ill or badly injured, in very serious or life-threatening situations such as: CHOKING, CHEST PAIN, BLACKING OUT, BLOOD LOSS, SERIOUS INJURY, SUSPECTED STROKE.”
The main function of the app is the provision of the latest known waiting time estimations to help you in making an informed choice on an appropriate NHS Site to visit.
Why visit a Minor Injuries Unit:
– You do not need an appointment
– You will be seen by an experienced nurse or GP
– MIU’s treat minor illnesses and injuries such as cuts, bites and sprains
– Most MIU’s are open early in the morning until late at night
