Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd Housing Association is looking into the possibility of building 38 new flats on the former Bangor City Social Club site on Deiniol Road.

A drop-in event to see the proposed plans will be held at Bangor Town Hall on 13 December 2018, where you will also be able to receive more information and share your opinions.

The proposal is to build 23 x two bed apartments and 15 x one bed apartments, over four floors which would be affordable rented housing with associated car parking, landscaping and access.

The proposed scheme aims to provide quality accommodation close to the heart of Bangor, which will offer mix tenures of modern apartments and will support the continued regeneration of Bangor City. The current proposal is to offer the following mix of units 5x 1 Bed Open Market Rent Apartments, 7 x 2 Bed Open Market Rent Apartments, 10x 1 Bed Intermediate / Affordable Rent Apartments, 7x 2 Bed Intermediate / Affordable Rent Apartments, 9x 2 bed Social Rent Apartments.

The site of the former Bangor Social Club, which closed in 2008 and was demolished in 2013, is close to the junction of Deiniol Road and Farrar Road, has been vacant since the former social club was demolished.

A planning application for the “demolition of the existing building and erection of 49 flats and parking area” at Bangor City Social Club, was refused by Gwynedd County Council on 21 April 2008.

An appeal against the refusal was made to the Minister for the Environment, Sustainability, and Housing, where the appointed Inspector held a public inquiry into the refusal, and resolved to allow the appeal and grant planning permission for 49 x 1 and 2 bedroom apartments in December 2008.

The development would be served by 38 car parking spaces, 6 of which are for occupiers/visitors with disabilities. Additionally, the scheme would provide 2 motorcycle parking spaces and covered space for the storage of 15 cycles. Part of the car park is covered under the proposed building, with the remainder being open.

The Drop-in event will be held at Bangor Town Hall, Ffordd Gwynedd, Bangor, LL57 1DT, on 13 December 2018 4pm – 6.30pm.

Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd is a housing association set up in 2010 who mange over 6,000 homes across Gwynedd, aiming to provide quality, affordable homes and services to tenants and strive to protect and develop the culture and heritage of communities.

With over 200 people in Menai Ward alone waiting for one or two bedroom apartments, it is hoped the development will go some way into addressing these issues.
